Advise to interested ASEAN countries on the legal and technical implications of accession to the Hague Agreement

This activity is aimed at assisting interested ASEAN countries in preparing for their accession to the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement.

To that effect, the project has provided for the organization, along with WIPO, of a regional workshop for the ASEAN countries that took place in Singapore on 26-27 March 2014. In its capacity as administrator of the Geneva Act of the Hague Agreement, WIPO shared with the ASEAN participants its expertise regarding the legal and technical implications of the accession to that treaty.

As a result of this workshop, the AMSs not yet parties to the Hague Agreement (Geneva Act) are in a better position to  take the appropriate steps to successfully join and implement this treaty (including the choice of optional declarations and the adoption of implementing provisions).  The accession of these countries to the Hague Agreement will be extremely beneficial for their design creators and business community as they will be able to take advantage of the great opportunities offered by this treaty to obtain protection for their designs in export markets.
