Information on trademark and industrial design filing requirements and GI protection systems in the ASEAN Member States

This activity is aimed at making publicly available updated information on filing requirements for trade mark and industrial design registration and on systems for the protection of geographical indications in the ASEAN countries over the Internet.

 

2014

 

The project has provided for the compilation of information concerning the trademark filing requirements in the ASEAN Member States in consultation with the relevant IP Offices.  This information was submitted for consideration by the ASEAN Trademark Consultation Meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan (September 2014). As recommended by that meeting and after review by the IP Offices concerned, this information was published on the ECAP project website and facilitated for publication in the ASEAN IP Portal.

 

Trademark Filing Requirements

 

Information Fiches concerning trademark filing requirements have been prepared and made available through the ECAP website for Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

 

These user-friendly, comprehensive trademarks filing systems summary guides are structured in three main sections: (1) Receipt of the application - Representation, (2) Search, Formality and Substantive Examination / Registrability and (3) Publication, Opposition, Registration and Objection/Cancellation.

Designs Filing Requirements

 

Information Fiches concerning designs filing requirements have been prepared and made available through the ECAP website for Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

 

These user-friendly, comprehensive designs filing systems summary guides are structured in four main sections: (1) Receipt of the application, (2) Filing Requirements, including information concerning filing date, representation, novelty, priority, registrability, (3) Examination and Registration process and (4) Term of Protection.
