Possible common practices that could be adopted by ASEAN IP Offices

This activity is aimed at promoting the progressive harmonization of trademark and design registration practices applied by the ASEAN IP Offices.

2014

In 2014 and as provisioned under key activity I (a) (ii), the ASEAN Common Guidelines on the Substantive Examination of Trademarks were elaborated by a group of senior trademark experts from the ASEAN IP Offices with the assistance of a short-term consultant provided by the project.

In order to support this activity, the project provided for the organisation of a Consultation Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand in July 2014 so to provide a platform for a group of experts from all ASEAN IP offices to exchange views and discuss proposals concerning such guidelines.

The ASEAN Common Guidelines on the Substantive Examination of Trademarks, prepared with the assistance of the project, were endorsed by the TM Task Force at their meeting in Makati City, Philippines, in November 2014.  The Common Guidelines were subsequently approved by the AWGIPC in December 2014.
