Assistance in training on administrative issues in PCT processing
11-15 March 2002, Bangkok
Thailand is not a member of the Paris convention, nor of the Patent CooperationTreaty (PCT.) However, as a WTO member committed to TRIPS, and having a number of bilateral agreements regarding recognition of priority rights, Thailand has to follow certain components of the Paris Convention, such as equal treatment. Meanwhile, Thailand can be expected to accede to the PCT in the future, now that other ASEAN countries have already done so namely Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam. It is therefore important that Thailand is technically informed and prepared to work with the PCT.
It is for this reason that EPO expert Mr R. Pether spent one week at the DIP with Thai officials in order to identify administrative requirements and to offer advice, to prepare the DIP for the forthcoming entry into the PCT.
