EU-ASEAN Workshop on "Filing to Registration Procedures-Trade Marks"
15-16 May 2002, Manila
ASEAN member states are pursuing a dialogue on the establishment of a common regional trade mark filing system, in line with the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Intellectual Property Cooperation. With a view to increase the common knowledge among the ASEAN countries on the procedures and practices used by each IP office for the registration and protection of trade marks, ECAP II sponsored this regional event. The activity consisted of a workshop whereby comparative discussions were held in order to facilitate the means by which common problems could be addressed, as well possible steps that could be carried out in view of adopting similar trade mark practices. The European experience was also brought to the workshop to offer insight and know-how on the steps undertaken for the creation of Europe's Community Trade Mark system. Four participants from each ASEAN country joined three trade mark experts from OHIM who brought to the workshop their solid experiences of legal and administrative issues relating to the registration and protection of trade marks in Europe both at national and regional level.
